Social Emotional Learning and Preventative Education

We strive to empower our Mustangs with skills for life. Middle school is a time of change, growth, and life lessons. Second Step® Middle School is our adopted social-emotional learning program to support our students' communication and collaboration, problem solving, making positive decisions, setting and meeting goals, and processing their emotions—skills they’ll use in the classroom and for the rest of their lives. This 26 week program includes a comprehensive, sequential collection of weekly lessons for our Mustangs, opportunities for voice and choice, culturally relevant instruction, and Real Voices videos with relatable stories from real students.

All students need digital citizenship skills to fully participate in our community and make smart choices both online and in life. That is why we have partnered with Common Sense Media to provide our students with digital well-being research-based lessons. The MMS weekly parent newsletter will include information about this program, encouraging families to engage in discussions that reinforce the digital safety and concepts it teaches.
