Vision Statement

The vision of the Moreland School District Counseling Program is for all students to depart empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve academic, personal/social, and career success, and to reach their fullest potential as respectful, responsible citizens.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Moreland School District Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to advocate for an environment that supports high achievement for all students and decreases barriers to learning, allowing students to become effective learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of a global workforce. In collaboration with other educators, families, and communities, this comprehensive school counseling program will maximize student potential and enable all students to experience educational success by providing preventative and responsive services in the areas of academic, career, and personal-social development to help students overcome challenges that interfere with learning and reach their fullest potential.

Counseling Services Overview

Our comprehensive School Counseling program includes a variety of services for our K-8 students. These services include:

Group Counseling: This is where we will meet with about 2-6 students in a group setting for about 8-10 weeks for 30/min/week on a specific topic (i.e. Anxiety, Anger, Social/Friendship skills, Self-esteem, etc. See Group Description Form).
Individual Counseling: This is where we will meet with students individually for about 3-4 weeks for 30/min/week on any concerns teachers/parents have (i.e. study skills, coping skills, family issues, etc.

Check-in: This is where we will check in with students either weekly, or every other week for about 10-15 minutes to see how they are doing, how their classes are going, etc.

Classroom Lessons: This is where the Counselor will come into the classroom and facilitate a skills-based classroom lesson based off grade-level needs.

Olga Salazar, MA., AMFT

School Counselor, Thursday & Friday

This will be my first year with Moreland district and MMS, however this is my second year as a school counselor.  I thrive on being able to hold a safe and accepting space for kiddos. I believe that supporting and encouraging authenticity is a key ingredient to self love, which ultimately plays a significant role in a child’s mental and emotional growth.
